Regular dental visits are important for your oral health and overall well-being. At our office, your dental hygienist will evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums, and mouth to see if any diseases or conditions have developed that require treatment. This is done through a variety of tests including checking for tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, cavities, as well any sleep breathing disorders you might have. During check ups you can also get advice about how to better take care of your teeth so they last longer.

There’s no better way to keep track of your oral health than with a dental checkup. We offer comprehensive exams that allow us to thoroughly examine the inside and outside of your mouth, including all tooth surfaces, gums, tongue and palate. Our exam is painless and thorough!

Checking for Tooth Decay

It’s important to check your teeth for decay every six months. Decay can lead to pain, infections, and tooth loss.
Tooth decay is the destruction of enamel on the surface of a tooth by acid from bacteria that cause plaque buildup on your teeth. It could take years before you notice any symptoms, but early detection is crucial in preventing more serious problems like infection or tooth loss later on down the line.

Checking for Gum Disease

Gum disease is a serious condition that can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. It’s important to take care of your gums and have them thoroughly examined regularly by your dentist or hygienist. Some signs of gum disease include bleeding while brushing or flossing, red swollen gums and bad breath. These can be easy to treat as long as they’re caught early!

Checking for Oral Cancer

It is important to get regular dental exams because it helps detect oral cancers at early stages when they are more treatable.

Signs of the disease can be lumps or lesions in the mouth, a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or an ulcer in the mouth that does not heal within three weeks.

We will perform a visual exam of your mouth, head and neck as well as take x-rays (if necessary) of your teeth and jawbone to check for abnormalities. We might also recommend doing a biopsy by taking tissue samples from suspicious areas for further examination under a microscope.
